Northwood Lake is a large neighborhood community snugly nestled among the trees in Northport, Alabama. The first home was built in 1959 on a then unpaved road and by 1962, Northwood Lake had officially established itself as one of the most sought-after communities in the Tuscaloosa area. At one time, it was the largest subdivision in Alabama with 765 homes. Today, it remains one of the largest and most desirable communities in the state.

Northwood Lake’s unique neighborhood layout and variety of home styles defy today’s cookie-cutter neighborhoods. The winding roads and wooded landscape keep Northwood Lake feeling secluded and private, even though its location keeps it close to city amenities. The University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre, located just minutes across the Black Warrior River, provide events and activities often reserved for big cities. Residents can also enjoy the proximity of churches, restaurants, schools, shopping and businesses.

Since its inception, Northwood Lake residents have worked to create a welcoming environment where neighbors can be neighbors in the truest sense, and families can have opportunities to enjoy Alabama’s unique beauty in their very yards. Deer, fox, birds, fish, ducks, rabbits and any variety of woodland creatures happily share our community. Common areas such as a private lake, pool, tennis courts, playground, walking trail and ball field give families and neighbors a place to gather. Potlucks, lemonade stands, bake sales, cookouts and garage sales underscore the large neighborhood’s small-town feel. From young families to retired professionals, there is something in Northwood Lake for everyone.
